Crockpot Mashed Potatoes

2.19.2015

Another thing I made in the crockpot for Thanksgiving is mashed potatoes.  The potatoes do all the cooking in the crockpot, then you have to take them out to mash them, etc.  It was nice not heating up the kitchen with the stove top on.

Crockpot Mashed Potatoes
Ingredients:
5 lbs russet potatoes (or whatever potatoes you have on hand)
1/4 cup butter, cut in cubes
1 1/2 cups chicken stock
1-2 garlic cloves, minced
1/4 cup cream cheese
1/2 cup milk
1 1/4 cup sour cream
salt
pepper

Directions:
Peel and chop potatoes.  Place in crockpot with butter and chicken stock.  Cook on HIGH for 4 hours.  Add garlic and cover for 30 minutes.
Mash potatoes and add cream cheese, sour cream, milk, salt and pepper to taste

Done!

Canvas Photos

2.13.2015

About a month ago, I made some prints for the kids rooms and bathroom.  I wanted to find a way to display them without having to put them in a frame or send them off somewhere to print on a canvas.  Instead, I put them on a canvas myself.  I've done this before (thanks Tee for the tutorial :), but it was more of a canvas transfer.  The way I did it this time glues the actual picture on the canvas.  It was pretty easy and actually kinda fun for this not-so-crafty gal.

If you need some prints, hop on over to my Etsy site and grab a few :)

DIY: Canvas Photos
Materials:
Printed photo (works best printed on photo paper)
Canvas - same size as photo
Black acrylic paint
Mod Podge
Application brush

Directions:
Trim picture to fit the canvas
Paint edge of the canvas
Let paint dry for about 30 minutes
Rinse paint brush while the paint is drying
Paint top of the canvas with mod podge
Place photo on top of canvas (picture side up)
Press down so all the wrinkles are out - this shouldn't happen much if printed on photo paper
Paint top of picture with mod podge and put some on the sides to seal in the photo
-make sure it's a thin layer
 - it looks white for a little bit after you paint - it will dry
Let dry for about 12 hours

I printed my photos at Costco and bought the canvas, mod podge & acrylic paint from Hobby Lobby - they have coupons all the time!  Most of their canvas' come in 2 packs. I already had a paint brush at home.  There is glossy and matte mod podge.  I picked up the matte and it worked well.

Crockpot Stuffing

Last year for Thanksgiving, I made a couple things in the crockpot.  One is stuffing.  It was super easy and tasted good!

Crockpot Stuffing
Ingredients:
2-6 oz. packages Stove Top Stuffing
3 cups chicken broth
1 can cream of mushroom soup

Directions:
Combine all ingredients together and cook on HIGH for 2-4 hours

Happy birthday to my sweet, silly, caring, genuine, big-hearted husband today.  We're going out to one of his favorites, Applebees, tonight to get him fiesta lime chicken!  Too bad the Seahawks didn't pull out a win for him yesterday.  So close.  We had a big cake for him yesterday during the game - and he taught the kids how to lick all the icing off the tray when we finished.  I think they love sugar just as much as he does!
